Google Update - Success!!

If you've been following this blog, you will know that I have been conducting a live experiment to see if I could conquer Google for two chosen search terms. The full story can be found here. I am very interested in the results achieved IN LESS THAN 1 week and I am seriously considering reshaping my marketing efforts based on these findings. At the start of this process, I had neither links to these keywords or rankings for these keywords in Google. So, after LESS than 1 week I have:

For paper gifts for first anniversary (campaign started 4th May 2008):

2 out of 10 page 1 listings (20%)
Around 87 links listed in Google

For funny 50th birthday poem (campaign started 7th May 2008):

3 out of 10 page 1 listings (30%)
Around 150 links listed in Google

It's been a resounding success!! With those links sitting there my pages will drift upwards in the coming weeks and I am confident that I will have positions 1, 2 and 3 within the fortnight. The other (so far) unspoken benefit is that all these links only go to strengthen my sites as a whole. The more links you have pointing to your site the bigger the authority you are. As we speak there will be unseen benefits for other keywords from these efforts. For example, I also have 2 out of the top 10 on Google for one of the 'nested' keywords i.e. 50th birthday poem.

This is what has got me interested. By using Micro Niche Finder I know I can identify sweet little niches that I can dominate. This is not spam or black hat, just good old fashioned SEO, giving Google what it wants; fresh, updated, keyword focused content.

To finish off these campaigns I will complete a round of social bookmarking (I'll show you how that is done QUICKLY in the coming days).

In the meantime, I have created a Squidoo Lens that focuses on a funny 50th birthday poem. I've also submitted the RSS feed to my favorite RSS aggregators using RSS Feed Submit i.e.
